Re: Chapter Four
Dwan looks at the glowing script on the back of the orc.
Uhh.. Can anybody read this? Maybe this will help
Dwan looks back to see Emelious casting his magics on the other dead Orc.
BAH! What are you doing? You shouldn't be disturbing one's time in the nether, you never know what you'll pull back.
Not waiting for it's eyes to open, Dwan moves to the orc and raises his hammer above his head. Say the word, orc! You move and I will have no problems smashing that skull into a pulp. Worse ways to go than killing orcs, yeah!
============================================
Dwan will intimidate the orc and if it rises up he will swing with all of his might to kill the beast once more.
Intimidate roll - 1 (5-1) 4
This Jolly looking Dwarf will still attack at first movement, regardless

Re: Chapter Four
Custer’s eyes widen as he reaches up, Kellar pulling at the young halfling’s arms -
*WHOOSH*
The grazing of fabric punctuates the missed connection, as Custer’s arm is twisted and crushed against the side of the elevator, his body plummeting down into the black as the cab careens upward…
[…]
As the dragoon struggles with Custer, Emelious crouches in front of the orc, calling on the power of Valkur in this hour of need!
The orc’s eyes snap open, his pupils still dilated and bloodshot.
“GRAAAAAARGGHHHH!” the creature screams in agony, as Emelious’s ‘intimidating’ shouts are lost in the ruckus. The orc stares up, his face the picture of recognition. The inertia of the elevator has clearly informed him of your impending doom.
The orc’s head snaps to the crystal ball, though his jaw is slackening and his eyes loll lazily…
*WHOOSH* a set of elevator doors goes screaming past, and you know you’re nearly at the top….!
*CRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE————“
A horrible wrenching sound fills your ears as the elevator vibrates terribly, the cab coming to a screeching halt, throwing you to the ground!
The breath is knocked from your chest, as the orc goes flying into the wall. There is a sickening crack, the beast’s head dislocated from its spine. Emelious goes flying into Kellar’s back, nearly knocking the dragoon down into the elevator shaft. Instead, his collarbone crunches horribly against the corner of the impromptu hole.
Dwan is dazed, his head spinning. Every bone in his body feels as though it just snapped.
[…]
Artimus looks at the series of chains and pulleys, watching as they suddenly stop.
Of course, his companions managed to stop the elevator!
…or, did the elevator just explode?
[…]
Custer falls through the inky blackness, cold air blowing through his hair throughout the plummet. There is a wetness, and a searing pain in his left arm. It is bloody - probably broken.
And his breeches. They feel wet too.
And then suddenly - SNAP!!!
The chain fastened to the halfling pulls taut, suspending him in mid air as the force steals away his breath ...
[...]
Kellar braces himself for what he knows is coming...
With a twang, the force of a falling halfling whips him toward the doorway...
========================
The elevator has stopped, thanks to Emelious' revival of the Orc. However, it has not stopped at an exit. Therefore, friends, you are stuck in the shaft.
The orc is dead, so unless you have another one of those revivify tricks up your sleeve Emelious, getting that thing back in motion is ‘back to square one’.
For the record, Osvald does not answer the communication...
Custer, you are suspended on the end of kellars rope. I need a DC 15 con check for the force of the drop, or else you're taking 1d4 temporary CON damage and 10 damage in general.
Everyone in the elevator (Dwan, Kell, Em), I need you all to make an athletics or dexterity-related check. You’re going to suffer 20 damage in the cab-crash, unless you can succeed at DC15 for half damage. DC20+ success means you suffer no damage.
Kellar, I need a secondary athletics check, DC12, to stop yourself from going flying through the hole that Custer dropped from. ALTERNATIVELY kell, you can take advantage on THIS check if you take disadvantage on the previous crash check, to reflect your bracing for impact
EXP: +25 for posting, +50 for Emelious' use of revivify!

Re: Chapter Four
CREEEEEEECH-
Time slows down as the elevator begins to screech to a halt.
Emelious finds himself lifted off his feet from the inertia and experiences an instant of weightlessness.
I did it.
And then time catches up with him.
Bodies are thrown this way and that.
Including his own.
The cleric flies backwards.
CRACK
Fire, a searing pain, goes through his skull as it collides against a hard surface.
The Half-Elf collapses to the ground.
The elevator dims...
The searing pain subsides to a dull warmth...
And as Emelious Storm closes his eyes, his previous thought passes his lips in a whisper… “I did it.”

Re: Chapter Four
Athletics Roll= 10+8= 18; Success!
Kellar felt the floor of the lift leave from under his feet. He gripped the chain that held Custer and braced his impact with the other. The ceiling was unforgiving. (Blade Ward spent, 5 Damage taken) THWACK! Kellar's golden scales and armor absorbed the brunt of the impact. The scales fluttered gently from the ceiling, leaving a faint outline of Kellar's body. His body dropped to the floor and he quickly flipped onto his back and braced his feet against the jamb of the open door. "CUSTER! Custer, hang on!"
Kellar felt the weight on the chain. Dead weight? His knees locked in place and he began pulling at the halfling's weight to bring him back up to the lift. "Hang on, hang on... I'll bring you up. Please be alive," he said through his teeth. Athletics Roll= 11+8= 19; Success!
Kellar glanced around as he was pulling up Custer. "Gods, is anyone else alive? Call out! Orbaugh? Check on the others," he said frantically.
Strength Roll= 10+8= 18; Success! (See Lair for Roll)
Kellar's arms and back ached from pulling at Custer and eventually bringing to the opening to the lift. He grabbed Custer's shoulder and squeezed it as he pulled the halfling onto floor. He saw the broken arm. "Not good, not good." He laid Custer on his side, fearing what was else was broken. He touched the pendant.
Artimus? If you are there, the lift has stopped. Custer is down. Maybe the others are too, I need to check. What is going on down there?

Re: Chapter Four
athletics roll +1 (19+1) 20 NO DAMAGE!!!!!!!!
As Dwan prepares to swing down on the orc he sees another elevator start to move down the shaft quickly.
Near the top... maybe I'll survive this. he thinks as he crouches down and locks his arms around the pillar holding up the orb.
CRASH
The car violently slams to a halt and everything goes flying. In the chaos of this motion Dwan holds tight, but is thrown to the ground and he sees only black.
He opens his eyes and his vision is a blur, everything feels sore, but after doing a preliminary check it looks like he got away relatively unscathed.
Dwan scans his surroundings, Well that's one less orc I have to worry about. As his gaze falls to Kellar, he can see that he seems a bit worse for wear but still well enough to keep a hold of Custer.
When he gets up to assist,
Dwan looks at the fallen half elf. Not another one... not today.
He kneels down next to Emelious and takes out his scepter. Whispering a druidic chant, Dwan channels healing energy into Emelious. (Healing Word)
===========================================
Dwan doesn't get hurt and heals Emelious. (Roll in lair) 4+6 10 health for Emelious

Re: Chapter Four
The air rushing past his head caused his eyes to water more, but his tears streamed behind him leaving his pupils burning dry. The feeling of his gloved fingers grazing the surface of Kellar's gauntlet seemed to last an impossible moment before he bounced between the moving carriage and the wall of the shaft. The sensation he would not remember, for in that instant his mind was filled with only the solid colors of unconsciousness and then the panic of coming to in his present free fall. The sound of his friends rising above him decreasing as the distance between them increased.
The hissing zipping sound of the large magic chain moving them was as distinct as the gentle jingle of the much smaller one snaking above him from its attachment on his harness. The light of the sparks from the carriage scraping stone at high speed glimmering on the metal of both as his body rotated to offer his dry eyes a view of them. It was a good thing he was so poor a climber, because he immediately realized what was happening. He blew out his air as he hoped the links of the chain would hold as it snapped taut. He'd always been tied to braided rope when he'd fallen before.
As it straightened, he realized he was now grateful for leaving his pack below.
The sound and blunt force of the chain snapping his weight against that of Kellar's above was something he'd remember. It hurt like all the Hells, but it held and his fall stopped. He had no idea if his vision blurred for the darkness that enveloped him in the suddenly quiet shaft.
The whine of the large chain had stopped. As his breath returned in what seemed an eerily escalating scream of thought, his mind realized that could only mean the cab must have also came to rest.
The trap!
Instinctively Cuss covered his face with his hands to protect his eyes from falling debris, and that is how he sat suspended as he slowly regained his composure in silence. It was how he remained as his body began to buckle with the heaving of Kellar's pulling.
Oh gods, I'm falling! I got us all killed!
Cuss reached for his necklace of charms to try to find the Fist and warn Artimus below before he became some of the debris that would surely crush the man. As his hands beat into his chest with each of Kellar's tugs, he realized the motion was wrong for somebody that was falling. He was rising.
They were ok.
He was ok.
His hand rested on Waukeen's coin. Agata's pendant.
Thank ya, me Lady. Thank you.
His eyes were still closed in the prayer as Kellar hefted him onto his side saying, "Not good, not good."
Cuss sighed and rolled over to stare at the ceiling. The cab was somehow still dimly lit and he could see Kellar holding the Kraken's Fist with closed eyes. He waited for them to open again before asking, "Everybody's still with us, yeah?"

Re: Chapter Four
The elevator sways slightly, suspended by the line and hung high. It rocks gently as Dwan heals Emelious, and the halfling rolls over filled with pain in his broken arm.
[Custer, left arm broken.]
The crystal ball fills the cab with a dim light, as you take a moment to catch your breaths.
[...]
Artimus looks up, hearing nothing of explosions nor rapidly falling elevator cabs. It seems that his friends have found a way to stop it from ending their adventure.
For now.
=======================
Ok lads, housekeeping post here.
Artimus and Pimli are way down the elevator shaft. The rest of you are in the cab.
Those of you in the cab - how are you planning on getting to the doorway below? You can climb if you like, but I'll need a detailed explanation of how you plan to descend 30 feet through the elevator shaft safely. Especially considering Custer's arm is broken. Make appropriate checks, and I'll let you know how you did
Artimus and Pimli, ditto for you. How are you going to climb nearly 200 feet? Unless your fellows can get the cab working, you'll have to find a way to ascend.
EXP: +200 for posting and for resolving imminent death

Re: Chapter Four
Kellar studied the lift they were in and looked over the others. Custer has a broken arm, Emelious nearly died and our resident Dwarf is nimble like a goat. And a dead goblin and orcs, lovely. He checked over Orbaugh who appeared none worse for the wear.
Kellar looked over the side of the lift and saw an opening roughly thirty feet down. "Looks like we missed our stop. It's kind of hard to tell, but I'd say it is thirty feet to descend." He removed two more lengths of chain and connected the caribiners to the one that was fastened to Custer make one length (60 ft). He removed his Lance and two Javelins and began wrapping the chain around the middle of them to make an anchor against the door frame. "I think its safe to assume we need to get off this lift as soon as we can. Emelious, are you okay to climb up top and disable the powder keg? I would really like to bring that with us as we descend."
If Emelious accepts: Kellar will help Emelious up onto the roof with an Athletics Roll= 6+8= 14; Good enough to Assist?
If Emelious declines: Kellar will ask for another volunteer (Dwan) (Will use roll above).
If that doesn't work: Kellar will ask someone to descend the chain while being harnessed so they can pry the door open down below.
"Do any of you have extra rope? I can fashion a harness from that so each of us can descend. Custer I can carry you on my back. That broken arm is going to do you no good," said Kellar. "If you have extra rope, fashion a loop to circle your waist. When it is your turn to descend tie a knot around the chain in case you slip, it'll keep you up and not splattered."
Kellar linked a Javelin to the end of the chain not wrapped around his other weapons. "Okay, I'll try to stick this Javelin into the ground with the chain linked to it. Here goes nothing." Golden Scales flowed from Kellar and covered the lance, developing three fletchings. It looked like a giant arrow. True Strike He threw it toward the doorway down below... Attack Roll= 15+8= 23; Hit!
Kellar sat in front of the weapons he wrapped in the chain and picked up the slack and nodded to the first person to volunteer their descent. Athletics Roll= 17+8= 25 "I'll keep the chain taught to allow you to slip down the chain and into the doorway."

Re: Chapter Four
Emelious was drowning.
Sinking into the deep blackness.
His body ached. No, his body was in agony.
Broken.
I can’t swim.
The light from the surface was now all but gone, the Half-elf unable to stop his descent.
And in that moment the young sailor from Waterdeep knew what it meant to be helpless.
And afraid.
Save me.
His lungs filled with water, as he cried out the words in his mind.
Save me.
And then, as he drifted towards oblivion, he saw it; a light.
A person. Swimming towards him from the surface.
A woman. With her hand outstretched.
Teela.
----
“Teela.”
Emelious sat bolt upright, with a gasp.
The Half-Elf breathed heavily as he looked around to find himself in the elevator, his companions standing over him.
“Thank you,” the Cleric whispered to the Druid.
Emelious fiddled with his belt and produced a crimson red potion. He uncapped it unceremoniously and downed it in one gulp, before wiping his mouth with his sleeve.
Dwan offered him a hand, and pulled the Half-Elf to his feet.
"Looks like we missed our stop. It's kind of hard to tell, but I'd say it is thirty feet to descend," It was Kellar, "I think it’s safe to assume we need to get off this lift as soon as we can. Emelious, are you okay to climb up top and disable the powder keg? I would really like to bring that with us as we descend."
“I’ll take a look. But, I’ve already filled my near death experience quota for the day, so if it’s too hairy I’m leaving it."
Kellar put his hands out to give Emelious a boost and the Half-Elf stepped up into them, grabbing the roof of the carriage.
The cleric started to pull himself up, but struggled and began to slip.
Emelious gasped and Kellar instinctively pulled him back in.
"You okay?"
Emelious nodded, his body shaking.
"Want to try again."
Emelious shook his head.

Re: Chapter Four
Thank you
Dwan nods to to Emelious. and takes a quick look around the elevator. Everything seems to pretty well in tact.
He glances around the elevator for the orc with the tattoo he found earlier to find it crumpled to the side. I'm not sure if this elevator is broken... he says to nobody in general.
He walks over to the body of the orc and turns it so that he can see the tattoo clearly. He takes out the knife on his side...
****************************
After Kellar helps the half elf up, Dwan walks over to him and Custer holding out a piece of orc steak.
Can either of you read this? This may be a command to help us control this stupid elevator. I'd rather not shimmy down to the bottom and find another way up here.
(If neither can read orc or whatever language the tattoo is in)
Dwan takes his other hand and clasps it around the Kraken's fist.
Artimus, if you're still down there I am sending you a care package. Its the tattoo of an orc up here. We think whatever this says may be the key to controlling this elevator. If either you or Pimli can read this let us know what it says so we can try to control it. If not we may be taking a rope down.
Dwan takes out two of the strips of cloth he made from the Red Wizard's ruined chair and wraps the orc steak twice for extra padding and tosses it down the elevator shaft.
=================================================
Dwan is seeing if anyone can read this tattoo.

Re: Chapter Four
When he rolled over on his back, Custer was jolted by a cascade of crackling pain as he put some weight on his left arm. He whimpered at the surprise. He cradled the break with his hand, feeling the bone's unnatural bend. He closed his eyes and tried to slow his breathing to calm his nerves on the floor of the elevator.
It must've been broken in the fall. Why am I just now feeling the pain?
He listened to Kellar's evaluation of their position in the shaft, and his plan to get down.
"Thank ya for offering to carry me, Kell. Ya going to have quiet the collection of owed favors by the end of all this, yeah?"
He accepted his friends hand to rise, groaning as he was pulled to his feet.
Dwan held a hunk of bloody Orc flesh in front of Custer's face and asked him if he could read it. It gave reason for Custer to feel lucky again. The pink plague was ruining the Dwarf's mind.
Custer's eyes focused on the meat and then he saw the tatoo. Oh, right.
"Oiy, they always said I'd regret sleeping through Orcish in school. I'd have never guessed them to be right about it. Sorry."
Cuss checked his belt with his good hand. His bows were intact and still holstered. His pouch was still snapped shut. His rapier and scabbard were also still there. Most importantly though, Emelious's black leather pouch of tools was still hooked and folded. He'd thought for sure they had slipped free in the fall.
He handed the kit back to Emelious. "Good luck with that climb. It's a tough one, yeah?"
When Emelious made the attempt with Kellar's help, it seemed too tough a feat for him as well. Even with the cab still.
If the half breed was putting on to make Cuss feel better, it worked, and the Halfling found himself smiling despite the pain in his limp arm.

The fellowship, battered and worn, stare down the elevator shaft to where Kellar's chain length has made anchor. In the darkness and the gloom, only dust can be seen floating in the light of your lanterns.
The bodies of the orcs lay still, the life long worn out of them.
Far below, Artimus hears the words uttered by his dwarven companion. Even as Dwan's words transpose to the mariner, Artimus knows he can be of no help.
He does not know Orcish.
===================
Ok guys,
I want to move the action along for the weekend. Don't want to spend a ton of time here in the elevator shaft, unless we're breaking out further narrative.
I need appropriate checks to make your way down the chain to where Kellar has festooned his chain to the doorway. If anyone does not give me a check this next rotation, I'll be rolling for you.
Artimus & Pimli, the chains hoisting the elevator are large enough to use as foot and handholds. You can climb them with reasonable ease, but I still need a check to determine how fast you can get up.
If the elevator starts moving for any reason, however, its not going to be good for either of you.

Kellar assisted each of his companions as they descended the chain to the lower platform. Custer went first (17) and awkwardly descended. "Easy with that arm Custer." (Kellar repeats the action in order of response from Dwan and Emelious and then finally himself).
Orbaugh, when I descend last, I will leave you here to unlink the chain from remaining javelins. You get to ride the chain downward. Orbaugh pranced at the thought and shivered. I do what I can Master! Kellar will collect his lance from the bundle before descending.

Re: Chapter Four
Kellar stands at the threshold of the elevator, helping his fellows onto the length of the chain one at a time. The cab rocks precariously, a thin stream of blood trickling from the fallen orcs and dripping slowly off the edge.
One by one, you feel your feet touch the ground. The door pries open easily enough, revealing a well-lit passageway beyond.
Finally, Kellar descends the chain, pulling it back in after him.
“Ici, mon ami!”
He hears the sound beneath him. Looking down, the dragoon can see the faint form of Artimus pulling himself up the length of chain in the darkness. The mariner looks out of breath, dragging himself upward.
[Artimus, climb checks; passed]
With one final gasp, Artimus hoists himself up onto the ledge, collapsing in a heap.
[...10 minutes previous…]
Pimli looks at Artimus, watching as the Mariner takes his first few steps up the elevator chain.
“Captain, you on on ahead. There was something about that portal room I just…I just wanted to check out…”
Pimli disappears down the darkened passage behind them, before Artimus has a chance to respond…
[...Present…]
You stand at the threshold of a long stone hallway. Braziers and torches light the way, and a hefty jute carpet lines the floor. This must be a well-worn passageway in the bowels of the tower.
Doing some mental math, Kellar believes that given their elevation through the elevator shaft, this level must be above ground at the least.
After catching your breaths, you start off down the hall.
[…]
The distant din of a crowd fills your ears, as you navigate the straightforward passages of the tower. You pass by several locked doors, and find yourselves climbing small flights of stairs.
Rounding the top of a final set, you come into a small, dark vestibule that leads out into a central antechamber, easily 100 feet wide.
Just in front of you, two sentries stand at the doorway. They are facing in, looking out over the sizeable crowd gathered in the chamber.
Shouts and laughter echo into your ear.
An orc stumbles past the doorway that you look upon, clearly drunk. Two humans follow him, wrestling him to the ground and cajoling like ruffians. There is a measure of revelry in this crowd - they appear to be celebrating. Or, perhaps, just passing the time.
The guards in front of you pay you no mind. They are busy watching the antics of the dozens and dozens - perhaps even a hundred - men and women and monstrous bandits milling about the stone chamber.
As you approach slowly, you can see more of the room. It has a towering ceiling, with high vaults made of stone. Gargoyles line the impressive architecture, gazing down upon the crowd. Torches stand in free-standing holders throughout the room, smoke rising upward and making it hot, amidst the body heat.
Custer peers to the west of the room, where he sees something that gives him pause…
Atop a staircase, standing in front of two steel double doors…is a Beholder.
===============
Ok guys!
You’ve come into an area of the tower where many of Keisan’s men are congregating, to pass the time and carouse a little bit. There are various tables where these individuals are eating or dicing, and many of them are drunk as piss.
The two guards at the entrance of the vestibule that you’re standing in won’t give you too much trouble…but I need you to say something to them, and provide some sort of reasonable alibi, as you’re coming from a strange area of the tower. Feel free to get creative.
There is a BEHOLDER floating on the western staircase, in front of two enormous double doors.
Let me know what you’re doing here…and make appropriate checks! Also, those of you that are heavily armoured…know that you’re going to attract some attention, because you look markedly different from the rest of the crowd.
If you’re going to move into the room in full armour, then you better have a good story about who you are and why you’re armoured like a brick shithouse while in this ‘barracks-like’ area.
cheers

Emelious puts on a jovial smile and strides up to the guards, "Don't worry, we have arrived! Hey, guys. Sorry we're late. We were out in the small teeth and this group of adventurers attacked, but we showed them! We were like Bam, Bam, Slash, Pow! And look at all this gear we got!" He then looks past into the hall and shouts at no one in particular, "Oh, hey, Gary!" Before waltzing into the room like he belongs there.

Cuss is close on Emelious's heels, the symbol of Cyric still dangling from his neck beside his broken left arm. He mumbles, "Bam, Bam, Slash, Pow, yeah? More like stab, stab, crunch, ow for some, no?"
He pauses to scan the room for Tandy or any of his cadre as he says, "Fookin Gary..."

Re: Chapter Four
The guards look up at you quizzically, nodding beneath heavy leather helms that taper at the top. One of them is very dark-skinned, with enormous hoop-earrings hanging from his nose and ears. The other is a tall northerner, perhaps from Luskan. He is gaunt and skinny, with a hideous patchy beard.
[Cuss/Emelious bluffing;]
"Wotever." says the Luskan, the darker guard not even looking at you.
You filter into the room, the air thick with torch smoke and incense. Furs and leather hides are draped all about the place, covering crates and boxes that serve as drinking tables and sleeping corners altogether.
The din is loud, these men and women of Keisan clearly blowing off some steam in their off hours. You make your way through the crowd without too much of a sidelong glance - everyone is wearing different garb, with no consistent uniform. You see elves and orcs, bugbears and gnolls meandering about.
Casting a glance up the stairs onto the landing, however, you can see a very different story.
The Beholder floats in front of the set of iron doors, flanked by four guardsmen that look similar to the two you killed in the elevator. Orcs and humans, armored in the heavy plate of discerned warriors.
Despite their stony countenance, however, they look just as uncomfortable standing beside the beholder as you might be.
==================
Ok guys, you're making your way through the crowd. There are a few things going on here, that you can feel free to interact with and weave your own narrative with supporting rolls. There might be something interesting to glean here...
1) The beholder, obviously, is standing sentry in front of the doors.
2) A pair of elves are playing lutes alongside one another, drunk and trying to outdo the other. A small crowd of men and women are gathered round, cheering them on.
3) Some men are dicing around four stacked crates, placing sizeable wagers on the table. One of them is blind. Another is holding a crossbow under the table, and you can notice it with a perception check of DC 18
4) Five gnolls are standing off to the side, huddled around a low firepit. They are keeping to themselves. If you approach them, they cannot speak common... one of them does speak the tongue of the drow (druchii), however.
Cheers guys,

Re: Chapter Four
Custer was as thankful for not seeing any other Halflings as he was for not seeing any heads turn their way when Emelious said hello to 'Gary.' He would have hid if somebody stood up asking, 'Aye, I'm Gary, who the hells are you and your lot then?' But he'd have soiled himself in laughter if it were rather, 'Emelious? How ya been old friend?'
He turned and looked at his friends, some of them blank sheets staring back at him clearly trying to decide if they should make friends or pull out weapons to start swinging to their own ends. Cuss started to shrug, but instead winced as pain shot up his left flank.
He needed to stabilize his broken arm. It would be the end of him if he didn't. As it were, he was exhausted by its dead painful weight throbbing with every step higher up into the tower.
Custer kicked a crate of apples on its side, some of the over-ripe fruit tumbling across the stone floor. He didn't bother looking to see if anybody cared, and quickly plopped down on the wooden box, sighing with relief as he sat.
He slowly lowered his pack down to the ground, careful to not let the straps catch the broken bone protruding from his arm. Kellar had offered to carry it after Artimus brought it with him on his climb, but Custer wouldn't let him, swearing he was fine.
He wasn't, but in this hole, Kellar couldn't be distracted caring for his arm if they were to make it out of this alive. That he was sure of.
Sweat beaded on his small forehead. He eyed an apple, but busied his good right hand flipping his pack open and digging into it. He didn't need to look away from the red skin as his hand navigated its way through stacks of supplies to pull free a thin cloth satchel and toss it open on the floor beside the fruit.
He paused, eyeing the healing kit and the fruit. He grabbed the apple and took a bite. He saw brown spots in the core as he tore it away from his mouth, but it tasted far too good in his mouth to stop chewing.
He swallowed then stuck it back in his mouth, taking his hand away and leaving the fruit hanging from his teeth. He reached for the kit and dug out a split. He stared at it, trying to think of a way to put it on his arm with only one hand.
Above the resounding sounds of laughter, cheering, and lutes, Custer heard a deep snarky snicker the likes of which can only come from a Dwarf. He looked up, seeing Dwan's kind eyes beaming past his thick, gross, beard.
Cuss smiled and let the fruit fall to the floor as he held up the splint. "Alright then, I need ya help, yeah?"
.....
Just getting it started might add more if others post some interaction with the NPCs...
Meh I'll get that started as well, edit 1:
.....
With a spinted arm, Cuss relaxed on the box eating the sour apple when he spotted a very large, muscular, tattooed, deadlocked, leather armored, human woman eyeing him from among the loud group of dice rollers.
Cuss winked at her.
Back in Esmeltaran, a shy Halfling girl may have blushed and turned away from him. This was far from home, however, and this one snarled as she stood up and began to stride over to the group.
Custer's mind went blank for a instant as he realized he had no idea what she might say, or worse, what his friends might. For the better of it, he took the lead.
"Hey darling, " He smiled.
"Do I know you?" She barked.
"Well, ya sure do now, don't ya?"
Her brow folded in confusion. "I don't know you."
Cuss's smiled never faded. "But I know you."
She crossed her big tattooed arms, "Then who am I?"
Without pause, Cuss said, "Ya the biggest, baddest broad in this room."
His friends looked at each other in an awkward pause, but she threw her head back in a roaring laughter that rattled the dreadlocks on top of her head.
When she caught her breath, she uncrossed her arms and held out a hand. "You do know me then."
Cuss looked at his broken arm, at the apple in his hand, then up to Kellar. He said, "Go on, shake her hand then."
He looked back to the women, "I'm Cuss."
...

Re: Chapter Four
Kellar kept his visor up and open. Keep the scales underneath. Don't show. So many threats... He began to sweat in his armor. Earlier he had descended with ease, Orbaugh had released the chain and he was able to collect it. He lost two javelins but it was worth it to make it safely. He heard and saw Artimus haggardly climbing the chain to make it to their floor. He was exhausted.
The cavalier stood up after the climb, and he was by himself. "Pimli? Where is Pimli," asked Kellar.
They righted themselves and he watched Emelious jabber-jaw his way past the guards with little fanfare. Clearly anyone this far into this camp has to be part of it right? They walked into the large room and he immediately saw it. The monstrosity floated at the top of the stairs and observed the room. It was flanked by two orc guards like he'd killed on the lift.
Kellar followed the others and kept an eye on Custer. He'd been injured but played like he was fine. The halfling finally sat down on a crate. Dwan had been asked to look at his wounds. Poor halfling.
Kellar took a position near them and he looked around the room and all the activity going on within. He whispered, "Whatever you plan on doing, do it quick and then let's get out of here." He relaxed his clenched fists and tried to shake the nerves that were biting at him. I should have brought that cask of powder. Dammit.
Perception Roll= 5+1= 6; Failure!
"Just... hurry up. We need to go."
He grasped the pendant and whispered, "Osvald, in the tower. Beholder in here. Need some support. A distraction. Anything." Kellar looked up at all the races here united under one banner. So many here, start another fight?

Kellar turned at Custer's conversation with the large woman. What in hells...
Kellar extended his hand and said, "Where you from soldier?" His hand met hers and they squeezed like a vice. A brief moment of contention sparked in her eyes. History Roll?= 14+1= 15 (Advantage from Background?)

Re: Chapter Four
Cuss was talking up a burly woman, normally this would be something Emelious would stop to witness, however there was gambling afoot.
A group of men were sitting around a makeshift table rolling dice. And would you look at that, they weren’t being shy with their bets. Although Emelious couldn’t imagine that followers of the “Mad God” would be too concerned with such things as frugality.
[Perception: 18 + 6 = 24]
And then he saw it. A crossbow. Under the table and pointed by a player at another. Unsportsmanlike.
Emelious strode up with a friendly smile.
“Ah, I see you’re full up. No matter, I’m sure a seat will be clearing up shortly. Because, I don’t know about you, but I quite object to having a crossbow pointed at me under the table,” Emelious swiftly draws his loaded hand crossbow and trains it on the fiend, “I much prefer to do my crossbow pointing out in the open.”
A hush falls over the table, and a tipsy female human nearby gasps.
[Intimidation: 2 + 3 = 5 ]
“Drop it,” insists the Half-Elf.
The man looks as if he is about to concede, but the confused and frightened woman, evidently thinking Emelious was talking to her, took the opportunity to do something completely distracting with her blouse.
The Half-Elf turned crimson, and an involuntary smirk tugged at his lips. A smirk that disappeared as the ruffian seized the moment to push the Cleric’s crossbow out of the way and aim his own in turn. The two grabbed each other’s wrists as they wrestled for control. The woman gasped again.
Emelious attempted to headbutt the man, but only managed to hurt himself.
“Ow! What do you have in there? Rocks?”
The scoundrel twisted Emelious’ wrist, forcing the Half-Elf to drop his crossbow.
It landed grip first, just as the scalawag was about to loose his bolt.
“THWIP” a familiar sound emanated from between them.
“Ahhh! Ahhhhhhh.”
Emelious’ hand crossbow had fired from the impact and the bolt was sticking through the scamp’s firing hand. Evidently preventing the poor wretch from pulling the trigger.
“Ahhhhh…” The man retreated out of the room, no doubt to take care of his skewered palm.
Trying to put aside the awkwardness of the moment, Emelious nodded politely to the clearly embarrassed woman, before giving the slack jawed players a look over.
“Uh... is this seat taken?”
----
Emelious gambles while trying to glean any information about current events, objects, and people.

Taking in his surroundings, Dwan realizes that he is in a very perilous situation. He keeps his mouth and stays close to Cuss, knowing that his silver tongue should be able to get them out of most perilous situations.
After Cuss's performance Dwan assists with the splint.

The huge, lumbering woman looms over the party, sweat beading down her hairless, musclebound neck.
Kellar stares at her, his mind searching for recognition...
[kellars check]
He certainly has never met this one...but he's fairly certain that he knows her lineage. This woman is far too large for a normal Amnian or Tethyrian girl...
Kellar was familiar with the Angoor tribe from the jungles of Chult. A tribe of enormous female warriors that guarded ancient ziggurats filled with enormous treasure. They were brigands and pirates by culture, setting off on personal journeys (called Zalgauun's) to return wealth to the horde.
This was undoubtedly a woman of the Angoor.
And now, she was smiling at the halfling.
"What of that smile then... Cuss? Do you try and woo me? Ho ho! I doubt the business in your trousers would be sufficient to scratch my toes!"
Two other women have sidled up beside her, though they are of normal faerunian breed. They laugh at her comments, peering down at the halfling...
One of them looks at Dwan.
"And wot' of you, handsome?" She says to the dwarf. She is a tattered, horrid looking wretch with an accent that betrays her lineage from the streets of Luskan.
"Are you 'ere for a date?"
[...]
Emelious sits alongside his unsmiling, very serious company.
Coins are flowing onto the table. The cleric is breaking even so far.
A rough necked brigand eyes him, looking him up and down as Emelious tries to warm the table with his charm.
"You look like a fuckin' prim rose, sweetheart. Who do you think yer fuckin' foolin'? Wot are you, some flufferboy from the north? Here to wipe Keisan's arse? Who is this guy?"
The others at the table peer over their cards ominously, smoking their pipes.

Re: Chapter Four
Dwan sits quietly next to Cuss and Kellar as they get more information from the inhabitants of this room. A rather large but oddly beautiful woman approaches, but Kellar steals her away for a conversation.
Logistically I don't think that would have worked out. He thought to himself before a raspy shrill voice cuts his thoughts like a katana through melted butter.
Dwan flinches and looks at the horrid woman. A look of disgust crosses his face as he starts to raise his hands up.
Oh no... I have an idea
Yes....er..uh.. Aye! Nothing completes a day like a roll in the hay.
Is this how the commoners talk.
Its how Moradin lets ye know ye're alive. A forced smile crosses Dwan's face, his eyes darting to find something to drink. Anything!
Dwan leans over and whispers into her ear. Now, I'm one for 'dventure but me thinks theres a couple too many eyes in this room. Dwan nods towards the beholder room. Any way you can get us back there? Not even kings 'n queens have protectors like that when doin' the down and dirty.
Another smile crosses his face as he gestures towards his coin purse revealing gold. Bein' on the front line has its advantages. The loot is always good. What do ye' say?

I mean we all know how loose the Luskans are... right?
I am so sorry about this.

Re: Chapter Four
A whole room of rowdy, fun-loving folk and the gamblers are the ones without a sense of humor. Just my luck. I’m going to have to try a different tactic if I want to get them talking. But what would-
"You look like a fuckin' prim rose, sweetheart,” It was the scowliest of the scowly men, “Who do you think yer fuckin' foolin'? Wot are you, some flufferboy from the north? Here to wipe Keisan's arse? Who is this guy?"
[Charisma Saving Throw: 15+6 = 21]
The Half-Elf smirks, not responding immediately, but instead casually takes a swig from a healing potion. The cleric takes his time, and politely dabs his mouth dry, before leaning back nonchalantly.
“Jealousy doesn’t suit you mate. And I’d be careful insulting people, especially when you don’t know who they are. I tell you this as a courtesy, one I’m not entirely sure you have earned. But, hey, I’ve had a long day. I trekked over a dozen miles, I killed over a dozen people, and to top it all off I also happened to skip breakfast. And instead of making my day even longer by killing you as well, I would very much rather enjoy a nice, relaxing, amicable game of dice.”
Emelious’ eyes glow white hot, a sinister smirk tugging at his lips.
“Are you going to prevent me from that?”
[Intimidation 17 + 3 = 20 ]

Emelious casts Thaumaturgy to make his eyes glow white hot.
Emelious asserts dominance.
Emelious uses dominance to get his questions answered.
