Re: Chapter Four
As the Orc barreled toward the room, crashing the door aside, Cuss stepped backwards to the wall behind him. “GragZOOGA!” He hears as he notices a fat goblin. It was chained, which he was grateful for, else it might swipe out at him.
The sharp scraping sound of damaged metal moving against metal getting closer demanded Cuss look back to the door where the Orcs were entering the room. He tried not to move. They looked at him, but they did not see him. Rather, they bark at the goblin and turned to face the others just in time to face off with Emelious, Kellar, and Dwan just behind him.
It was going to get crowded. Cuss glanced at the goblin. It was terrified, but the quivering lips could easily give him up to the Orcs. He was not going to be able to enjoy the ride for long.
He stepped between the goblin and Ekethai as he loosed bolts from both Olc and Maith at Ekethai, then he dove between the legs of Razzul. If Cuss was lucky and Ekethai turned to look, he'd see the cowering goblin. Cuss stayed light on his feet, ready to dive away if he were not so lucky.
His first bolt struck deep in the armpit of Ekethai as he raised his tower shield block a blow from the door. From Custer's height, the angle was perfect for the bolt to slip into flesh and bone. The flat thud the strike sounded suggested it had done just that, and blood began gushing down the metal covered flank of the beast as it grunted in surprise of the sudden pain.
The second bolt glanced off the metal armor of the Orc, and careened into the room beyond, just missing Kellar as he lunged for the elevator.
Cuss, however, was busy catching a glimpse of his bag laying against the wall in the other room dropping away from him. He hoped he'd see it again.
[Opportunity attack on Ekethai, advantage from being hidden. +7]
19 Hit!
[Opportunity attack 2, xbow xpert, advantage from being hidden. +7]
14 Miss!
[Cunning Action, Stealth to hide under Razzul, +9]
24 Hidden!
Cuss danced under Razzul to keep from being stepped on as the Orc began to struggle with the others. He holstered his bows, the motions of his hands a blur. He drew his rapier, a memory of his sister holding her own flashed through his mind just as he jabbed his straight up into Razzul, where the legs meet the body. 'She'd like this, yes?'
The blade slid with a shriek along the metal covered calve of the Orc before the tip found purchase in the groin. It almost wholly disappeared inside the Orc, who rather than cry out in pain, sucked in air as if to hold its breath before diving under water. Almost as an answer to his thought, when he pulled the blade free from the beast, blood spurted all over Cuss's head, the flow pulsing with the tempo of his foe's fast beating heart.
[Standard action melee attack, possible advantage from stealth roll above. +6]

Re: Chapter Four
*CLANK*
Kellar and Emelious hit the iron floor of the moving elevator, as Dwan slides furtively through the opening beside them, just in time to clear the threshold before certain crushing death.
Artimus and Pimli are left in the chamber below, watching the chain move in the now-empty elevator shaft…
[…]
In the cramped quarters of the elevator, you find yourselves jammed in a lockjaw of sweat and blood.
The orcs scream gutturally, taken aback as they swing their swords wildly. Blows bounce off armour and the clanging of steel is nearly deafening as everyone struggles to get oriented.
Ekethai spits, foaming through his visor, as he reaches out and crushes in to Emelious, against the far wall.
The movement of the elevator beneath you is disorienting, the goblin screeching in the corner amidst the torrent of cramped combat.
*SMASH*
The half-elf cleric feels the wind taken from his chest, as the orc tries to pin him by the neck, with his elbow -
[Ekethai, grapple vs. Emelious; DC 15 to escape]
As Emelious feels the brute press against him, Ekethai drops his sword, cocking back an armoured gauntlet and planting a bone crushing punch into the cleric’s jaw!
[Ekethai gauntlet melee attack vs. Em, hit; 12 damage to Emelious!]
The half-elf feels the bones is his face crack beneath the blow from the orc, blood filling your mouth as his hot breath burns your nostrils.
[…]
Razzul cries out in pain as Custer’s blows land deep, the orc barreling into Kellar and dropping his sword also. The armoured orc leaps, grabbing at Kellar around the waist and driving him into the wall…
[Razzul, grapple vs. Kellar; DC 19 to escape!]
The wind is knocked from the dragoons stomach, as the orc hammers his fist into Kellar’s kidneys, hoping to fell the mighty warrior!
[Razzul gauntlet melee attack vs. Kellar, hit; 5 damage to Kellar]
Kellars thick armour blunts the majority of the blow. But the orc is relentless, and continues hammering upon the warriors chest with a heavy, gauntleted fist.
The elevator rises slowly…
===================
Ok guys!
Kellar and Emelious are being grappled by the orcs. You each have your DC’s to escape.
If you don’t escape, I’m going to rule that you can only attack them with your fists or a dagger, if you have one. The elevator is so cramped, it’ll be really hard to use swords or axes.
If you are able to escape, you can use your weapon, but you must attack at disadvantage.
Anyone size category: small is unaffected by disadvantage to use weapons.
Dwan and Custer, if you’re attacking the orcs I’m going to grant advantage because they’re grappling the two large fellows.
Artimus and Pimli. You’re alone in the room below. You can see the chain that controls the elevator - a big, bulky thing clinking away in the shaft.
Thoughts?

Re: Chapter Four
Emelious deftly maneuvers onto the elevator, rolling onto his feet. But as he does, an orc crashes into him, pressing him into the wall, forcing him to drop his rapier.
No…
We have come too far.
Emelious’ eyes glowed with divine energy as his gaze bore into the domineering greenskin.
Stop!
[Emelious casts Hold Person at DC 14]
[Ekethai wisdom saving throw: 5 + 0? = 5 = Fail!]
The plate armoured orc slows to a stop, his grip growing slack. Paralyzed.
“Take him down!”
Emelious gathers his rapier and prepares a strike.
---
Ekethai is paralyed from Hold Person. DC 14 Wisdom Save to negate at the end of his turn.

Re: Chapter Four
Coughing and blinded by Orc blood, Cuss is forced to the center of the elevator. Panic simmered inside him as he realized he could be skewered any instant. He wouldn't see it coming. Swords clang and clatter to the floor around him as he wipes his face on the sleeves of his cloak. He blinks hard and peers through the slit of one eye.
He thinks, Thank ya me Lady, as he sees the two Orcs locked in grapples with his friends and blood pooling around their feet. They were both ripe for the pointed end of his rapier.
Emelious shouts, "Take him down!"
Cuss turns his stance to strike out at Ekethai and he notices the Orc has stopped moving. How.. he begins to wonder, but the half-elf's glowing eyes beamed him understanding. Clever.
"Too easy," Cuss says as he aims his thrust for a thin gap in the Orc's armor near its hip.
[Rapier +6, advantage from Orc's condition.]
20
The blade slid through the slit without the slightest resistance, and pulled free a darker shade of crimson as it was now covered in the life blood of both guards.
He turns his head to show the chained goblin his smile. He hopes the creature understands common as he says, "The only thing better than the smell of Orc blood is the taste, yeah?" He laps at some of the blood on his lip with his tongue as his eyes flash crazy. Even if the goblin didn't understand common, he should catch the meaning.
[Intimidation rolled in Lair +1]

Re: Chapter Four
Kellar felt the fists close in on him. Each trying to find its mark on him. He parried with counters and reversals of the orc's hold on his armor. The last punch came in across his face... REACTION! Kellar's head rolled under the punch like a swivel! (Used Parry- 1 die remains) 1d8+5= 5
Orbaugh popped out from Kellar's shield and began nipping at the orc's grip. Master! Break Free! (Used Help Action)
The tiny bites began loosening the grip of the orc. "I will end you! I will crush your skull," said Kellar through gritted teeth. Strength Roll= 9+8= 17; Failure! Orbaugh! Go for the sword! Lift it! Orbaugh dropped from his Master and scurried for the sword. Kellar chopped downward with his fists on the grip of the orc. "Feel my rage..." Flame sprouted from under his armor and traveled through his arms. His gauntlets glowed red and flame erupted from his palms, splashing on the orc. Firebolt= 19+8= 27 Hit!; Damage= 6

AO'S POST
As Emelious stares into the frozen eyes of the armoured Orc, he watches the brutes eyes whit, and his flesh turn grey. His grip on the cleric falters, and then Ekethai falls to the ground in a crumpled heap.
The elevator rocks with the force of the collapse, grinding against the chains and gears exterior to the cab. Kellar pushes the remaining Orc away, flame rippling from his fingertips and igniting the flesh beneath the greenskin's armour.
A wretched scream is heard, as the killing blow is delivered to the second Orc.
And then all would be quiet, if not for the relentless shrieking of the horrified goblin in the corner, staring in pure terror at the expression of malice in Custers eyes....
=============
Ok guys, the elevAtor is still creaking upward. You've defeated the orcs within ample time, and so you have a moment to try and figure out how to lower the elevator back down
The goblin in the corner is hysterical. Will require some additional checks to soothe or further intimidate him if you require his cooperation
those of you down below (art and pim) are free to investigate the situation below, also
Exp:+100 each for killing the Orcs. +50 exp for not letting them get away. +25 for posting

I don't know if you can understand me, but you will take us down to the room below, Now! It's not going to take long for the four of us to do the same thing to you. He points to the dead orcs and back to the goblins.
[Intimidation -1] 16-1 15
Dwan looks around the elevator to see if there are any gears or levers that can be used to stop, if not reverse, the movement of the elevator.
[perception +3] 14 + 3 17
===============================
Dwan yells at the goblin to reverse the direction of the elevator. Regardless of the answer he still tries to find a way to stop the elevator without the goblin's intervention.

Re: Chapter Four
The orc was engulfed in flames before Kellar's eyes. The screech and sudden resignation abruptly stopped the noise and the orc collapsed in a heap of charred flesh. The fizzle and pop of skin against hot plate mail sounded like hail striking a clay roof. Orbaugh tried to drag the longsword to his Master. It is okay Orbaugh, he has expired. The pseudodragon's tail loosened from the weapon and it clanked on the floor. Orbaugh, check them for shinies. Kellar grabbed the charred orc by the boot and dragged it to the other side of the lift, near the other one that had been bled out.
Kellar touched the pendant on his neck. Artimus. We killed the two guards. Still ascending, we will try to find a way to return to you. The orcs dropped their weapons down there. Bring one of them with you, please. He watched as Dwan tried to reason with the goblin. "You would think he would settle down now that the orcs are dead. Emelious, Custer are you two okay?"
Actions:
Orbaugh Perception (for them shinies)= 16+4= 20

Re: Chapter Four
Even after the two orcs fell, the goblin continued to shriek.
"I don't know if you can understand me," Dwan interceded, "but you will take us down to the room below, Now! It's not going to take long for the four of us to do the same thing to you." The dwarf pointed to the bloody corpses that took up the majority of the platform.
"You would think he would settle down now that the orcs are dead," Kellar mused, "Emelious, Custer are you two okay?"
Emelious traced his fingers over his latest wound.
I've had worse.
"Eh, better off than these two."

Re: Chapter Four
Keller's thoughts floated into Artimus mind as the pendant of the fist hummed against his chest. His thoughts were brimming with steaming sanguine and Artimus could see flashes of burnt orc flesh.
Artimus Clutched the Krakens fist with one hand as he scouped up the dropped Orcen Arms and his own bolo which had clattered across the tiled floor after missing it's target.
" I have zhem mon dragoon"
Artimus turned back to Pimili-
"They're coming back for uz mon ami"
Artimus Dragged the dropped weapons to the mouth of the elevator leaning them against the cool stone wall.
The Mariner peered down the shaft gauging it's depth and attempting to acertain the method of it's operation, and relative weight tolerances. He compared the moving chain to the pulley and counterweight system seem on some sailing vessels to raise heavy mainsales or crane cargo aboard.

Re: Chapter Four
Custer wipes blood away from his face and flings it to the floor of the elevator. He then wipes his hand on his tattered cloak, and pulls his scarf up over his nose to mask the smell of burned Orc flesh, which reminded him of the piled bodies in the streets of Esmeltaran after the battle. The piles that his house guards Elrne and Savvus were cast into.
He glances at Kellar when asked if he was ok. He answers by showing annoyance with the shape of his face, conveying 'of course I'm fine' with the suggestion that all this is just another routine day in the life of this Thickett.
From behind Dwan, Cuss stares at the goblin to get its attention. When it looks his way, he sniffs his rapier and closes his eyes as if enjoying the smell of a fresh tankard of brew.
If the elevator keeps rising, Cuss will take cover behind Kellar's pile of Orc bodies in the corner, clean and sheath his rapier, then prepare his hand crossbows to fire.
If it stops or begins dropping, he will clean and sheath his rapier then begin looking for pockets or pouches to dig in on the dead Orcs.

Re: Chapter Four
The dwarf bellows at the goblin, the wretched creature squealing and screeching as goblets of mucous and snot run down its pudge nose, dripping onto its bloated belly. It is held in place by its chains, gazing up into the quivering beard of Dwan with the whites of its eyes narrowed to fine points…
[Dwan Intimidation results]
The goblin stammers, pointing up at a subtle crystal ball inlaid into the wall, and speaking in undercommon
’The ball! It moves elevator! But…But….only master orcs can command!
He cowers, as the dwarf and the cleric try and discern what he means by ‘command’.
Emelious peers at the crystal ball, which swirls subtly, cascading light from its centre. Emelious can sense a strong sense of will emanating from the artifact - the half-elf believes it must be activated through thought…
Dwan furrows his brow, trying to uncover the connection between the crystal ball and the chains & pulleys he can hear grating outside. It seems that, likely, the connection is magical…inaccessible to anyone within the cab.
Somehow, a telepathic command must be issued to this artifact. In the same manner than an orc might.
Dwan backs up, leaning against the elevator wall. It creaks slightly, giving way just a little bit. It could be possible…although certainly ill-advised….to pry open the door and perhaps descend down the shaft free-fall.
The goblin weeps quietly, sniffling and rocking itself.
[…]
Artimus struts over to the elevator shaft, peering at the mess of pulleys and chains that are carefully articulated from within. He knows a few things for certain:
Stopping this thing as it’s in operation is a fool’s errand, and any tool interjected would certainly be destroyed by the inertia of the magically powered machine.
That said, the captain can certainly see a few inefficiencies that are exploitable, and would likely slow the elevator considerably…
=================
Ok, Artimus - if you can make an ‘appropriate’ (pitch it in your post) check with some sort of tool, you can potentially slow the elevator by a few rounds, buying the folks inside some time to prepare.
Guys inside the elevator; ill leave it to you. You’ve only a few rounds until the elevator reaches its destination…

Re: Chapter Four
Kellar adjusted his armor and checked over his weapons while Dwan spoke with the goblin. "I don't know if he'll provide anything useful. We have a couple options: We ride this out to the top and remain separated from Artimus and Pimli or we try and stop this through other means. Either case, the easier option is to ride this out and see what we come up against when we finally arrive," said Kellar.
He grasped the pendant.
How likely is it that you can stop this thing and we can return? It seems that we are unable to control the function of this lift now that the two orc guards are dead.
Kellar looked at the ceiling of the lift. "How long do you think we have until we arrive?" He waited for a response from the others in the lift. "Dwan, ask the goblin what we can expect on the top floor when we arrive. He has to know something about it. Emelious, do you still have any favor with your deity? And Custer, how do you feel about a moment of flight, when we arrive?"
Actions:
Kellar is asking questions and prepping a sort of game plan for when we arrive at the top floor.

Dwan pries open the panel on the side. Well, I found at least one way out.
Dwan nods and turns his attention back to the goblin and resumes his berating, What waits for us at the top? Answer quickly now, Dwan points his hammer towards the open panel, because if we get to the top.... you won't!

Re: Chapter Four
The goblin’s eyes widen, as Dwan peers into them deeply with malice on his lips. The creaking of the elevator grows louder, testament to the grinding of the chains together from some outside force…
…down below, Artimus toils furiously at the mechanisms, seeking to slow the elevator.
The mariner knots a rope together, looping it round the clanking chains of the lift mechanism and reefing hard on it…
[Artimus, using of rope;]
The rope bristles and splits instantly, getting caught in the chain pulley and shredded on its’ way up into the black of the elevator shaft.
He’d need to find another way to slow it...
[…]
The goblin stammers, as cold air blows in from the broken apart panel that Dwan disassembled. Custer peers out, looking down the dark shaft.
It extends a long, long, long way down. Hundreds of feet, perhaps.
Turning your attention to the goblin, it speaks again between stifled sobs.
[[‘We’re dead! We’re dead!”]] the creature shrieks pitifully.
You listen in under-common, as the goblin relates that Lord Keisan has trapped every elevator in the tower. If it is not halted manually by an officers’ use of the crystal ball, a powder-keg attached to the roof of the cab will explode, destroying the lift system and plummeting you all to your deaths.
Chug-Chug-Chug-Chug…
The elevator continues its journey upward.

From his position of cover behind the charred pile of armored Orcs, Cuss responds to Kellar, "Flight? Oiy, Kell, if only I could shrink like the gnome and have Orbaugh carry me, or," Cuss looks over his shoulder at his back, "Me think's I'd look good with wings, yeah?"
"Mayhaps there are no guards at the top."

"Vhira," commanded Kellar. (Down)
"I don't know if that will work, none of us are orcs or are attuned to this device," said Kellar. He watched Dwan pry open the door. Kellar approached and looked up and down the elevator shaft. "There's a trap set on top of the lift? Custer, you're up, come here." Kellar unfurled two lengths of chain and fashioned a harness for the halfling, much like he did for Pimli. He clicked the end of it on his belt. "Okay Custer, I will lift you up and give you a push to get on top. Disable the trap and wrap the chain around powder keg. We can lower down into the area here and we'll have a nasty surprise for whatever is waiting for us when we get to the top. We have to be quick," said Kellar.
"Dwan, can you take a look at it again and see if there's a way to dispel the enchantment on that orb?"
Kellar grasped the pendant again.
Artimus, the top of the lift is set with a powder keg to explode if it goes too far and isn't stopped with a command word. I'm going to send Custer up to the top of the lift to disable it. Attempt to slow it from your end, buy us a little more time. Stand by.
If Custer is agreeable: "The chain will keep you secured to me and the lift. I'll use my lance as an anchor point in the floor for when the powder keg is lowered. No sense in being pulled from the sudden drop of the keg. Are you ready?" Kellar will have Orbaugh assist Custer on the roof so Kellar can get a glimpse of what is happening. (Orbaugh using the Help Action).
If Custer isn't agreeable: "Custer, you're the smallest one in here and have the means to disable the trap before we get to the top. Otherwise we are dead. The drop is considerable, none of us will survive."
Actions:
Kellar will ask Custer to assist with his plan to disable the trap and acquire one powder keg.

Re: Chapter Four
Kellar said, "There's a trap set on top of the lift? Custer, you're up, come here."
Cuss turned and looked at Kellar, blinking hard once. "A trap? What kind of trap?"
Assuming somebody is able to describe the trap, Cuss listens but his skin slowly starts to darken red. He was thinking of his pack and tools. He was embarrassed. Oiy, the hells was I thinking?
He turns to look at Kellar, "I, uhh.."
Kellar began to explain his plan, "Okay Custer, I will lift you up and give you a push to get on top. Disable the trap and wrap the chain around powder keg. We can lower down into the area here and we'll have a nasty surprise for whatever is waiting for us when we get to the top. We have to be quick."
Cuss's eyes were wide, but this time it was not because he had an idea. "I, uhh.."
Kellar persisted, desiring haste in Cuss's action, "Custer, you're the smallest one in here and have the means to disable the trap before we get to the top. Otherwise we are dead. The drop is considerable, none of us will survive."
Cuss stepped closer to Kellar as he tried to explain, "Aye, ya say that now, but,"
Kellar pressed on, "The chain will keep you secured to me and the lift. I'll use my lance as an anchor point in the floor for when the powder keg is lowered. No sense in being pulled from the sudden drop of the keg. Are you ready?"
Cuss just spat it out as he pointed down, the red hue of his skin matched only by the pink of Dwan's infection, "I left me tools down there. Me mirror, pliers, all of em."
He looks up at Kellar, "I'm sorry."

Kellar paused.
"Wait, what? You left-- Nevermind that, Dwan, Emelious? Do you have something Custer can use while he's on the roof?" He looked at Custer and gave him a nod. "It's okay Custer."
Kellar touched his pendant in a panic.
Artimus, pick up Custer's pack if you could. Heck, ask Pimli to pick it up. Try and buy us some time!
He looked to the others and then checked his own pack. "I do have a set of leather working tools. There's some needles, awls, thread and wax in my kit. It may not be best suited but it's better than nothing. What do you two have?"

Re: Chapter Four
A near certainty of death? Well...
Dwan gives the goblin a frustrated kick, knocking him closer to the opening at the side of the elevator, and suddenly red.
Well it's used up all of its usefulness. a dark thought intrudes as Dwan feels a jolt on his foot again. and again, and...
Dwan snaps out of his daze, looks down and sees that the goblin is now precariously close to the opening clutching its stomach in pain, and throwing a hand out to beg for the blows to stop.
Disgusting! he thinks to himself as the goblin scrambles over to the side of the elevator with all of its paneling. Not sure who I'm talking about though.
Dwan looks to Kellar, That kind of magic is a bit beyond me, my forte deals more with nature as a whole. I think Emelious would be able to assist more with the task.
Orc thoughts are usually pretty simple, kill, eat, pillage. I doubt much was needed to use the orb. I wouldn't be surprised if they have some kind of enchanted lodestone that lets them control the elevators. Dwan busies himself searching the two dead orcs, looking for something that might create a link between the wearer and the elevator system.
Unfortunately, I don't really have much. A pairing knife and one that I use for skinning.

Emelious produces a set of tools wrapped in a black leather case...
"Uh... for emergencies," Emelious explains as he hands them to Custer.
"Like when you're trapped in a magical mind operated murder elevator."

Artimus' Eyes Widened- the weight of situations raining from Kellars words, downt he long shaft and over the Mariners visage.
-**"Ok Mon Ami, I will do what all I can- Hold on"**
Artimus Pulled from his sackchel a hand full of ball bearings each the size of a large bluebarry, and another handfull of spikes caltrops, each the size of an ahcorn, looking at them with concern for a moment at what he was about to do.
Artimus sends the following words in Elvish, Drow, Dwarven over the first to Everyone in the elevator " Stop - Friend - Halt - Down"
Artimus tossed the ball bearings into the gears of the elevators interworkings, if that didn't slow it, he would toss the spiney metal objects into the works aswell, despite the risk.

Re: Chapter Four
Cuss's flushed skin pales, but his embarrassment remains as he quickly unloads and stows his bows in his belt. He takes the tools from Emelious. The pack look oddly larger in his hands. He nods his thanks and says, "Oiy, ya quite the little snakesman, yeah?" (Cant: Cunning Thief)
He then turns his back to Kellar, "Go on and strap me in then. Be quick about it, yeah?"
[I suppose I need a climb check with assistance advantage here. Need some Lady Luck on this one. -1]

Re: Chapter Four
Emelious stands, his brain rattling off command words in Common, Elvish and Dwarvish. He peers towards the crystal, eyes squeezed tight…
…nothing.
Meanwhile, Dwan frantically searches the fallen orcs for anything on their possession. Rifling through their pockets, he finds only a few spare coins and small trinkets…
[Dwan, perception]
Turning over one of the orcs, however, he finds a small passage of verse, written in orcish, tattooed across the creatures’ back. The verse glows softly, the harsh words outlined in magical scrawl. Unfortunately, it is written in Orcish, and he cannot decipher its meaning.
[…]
Artimus approaches the gearshaft haphazardly, muttering curses in Cormyrian and pulling all manner of ball-bearings and caltrops from his pack.
Steeling his reserve, he jams the assortment of small, metal collaterals into the anchor points of the pulley system, praying that the machine would slow…
A terrible, HORRIBLE creaking sound is made - and then - *WHPING!*
Artimus screams aloud as a ball bearing tears through the air, cracking into his face just above the eye and crushing bone.
*WHPING*
*PTNG!*
*SCHPING*!
Artimus turns and bolts for cover, as shrapnel bursts through the air, flaying and crushing his flesh and bones.
[15 damage to Artimus! Halved with a DEX check of DC 15]
[…]
Custer twitches, deftly slipping through the opening in the side of the elevator. The ascent of the cab is dizzying, wind whipping through his hair as his skin floats millimetres from the rugged wall of the shaft as it streams by…
He reaches his hand up, bolstered by Kellar’s support….
….
[Cuss Climb check….]
…and his hand slips! The halfling’s stomach catches in his throat as raw adrenaline pumps through his veins. The small halfling feels his body falling, his back bouncing against the shaft and stealing the breath from his throat…!
He feels an arm catch around his, Kellar’s face staring down into his. The dragoon catches him - just barely - as the cab rockets skyward towards a fiery doom.
===============
Ok fellows! Artimus, you’ve taken some damage from the shrapnel of your used materials.
Custer, you’re hanging by a thread. Given the precarious situation you’re in right now, you have two options:
Kellar, you can attempt to hoist Custer back up into the elevator, with advantage as he assists you with his natural dexterity. This will take your full round action, and you’re RUNNING OUT OF TIME.
Kellar can attempt to hoist Custer up, with DISADVANTAGE, and Custer can make another climb check (no advantage or disadvantage) to climb the elevator cab.
Cheers

Re: Chapter Four
Kellar braces Custer as he slips out the opening in the side of the elevator.
Down.
Custer reaches for the the the top of the elevator.
Down.
The elevator jostles and the Halfling slips.
DOWN.
Kellar instinctively grabs Custer’s arm.
STOP!
Common, Elvish, Dwarvish… Not working. Orcs. Orcish. Orcish…
---
Several hours earlier…
“Ack aljar rughan…” the jailed jailer resigned.
And with that, Osvald began translating, “…The water is polluted with poison...”
---
Osvald…
Emelious grabbed his pendant and focused on the Hales, What’s Orcish for stop?! Quick! What’s Orcish for stop?!
The elevator continued to climb.
What if knowing the word isn’t enough.
Emelious dropped to his knees.
I have no idea how this thing works…
The Half-elf’s gaze focused on the dead orcs.
But they do…
The cleric began frantically digging through the pouches on his belt.
They’re somewhere around here… Aha!
Emelious produced a small glittering diamond and then looked to the closest corpse.
It’s your lucky day, Orc.
Radiant light filled the room as the diamond became blindingly bright with divine energy.
“Valkur, save this soul, so that he may save ours!”
And with that Emelious Storm thrust the diamond into the orc’s chest.
PIINK!
The power harnessed inside the gem erupts forth, and as impossible as it seems to the young cleric, the light gets brighter.
FOOOSH!
The light is drawn into the Orc’s body. And then… it’s gone.
“Ghuahh!”
The fallen gasps back to life, his face a contorted mix of confusion, horror, and relief.
Emelious bares over him, grabbing him by the collar of his armor, “Stop. This. Elevator.”
[Intimidation w/Advantage: 3 + 3 = 6 = :'C ]
The terror building in the Half-Elf causes one more word to slip out: a pathetic, whimpering, frantic, watery-eyed, "Please?!"
Down.

Custer nearly fell.
"I got you! I got you. Hang on, you need to get back up there," said Kellar. He re-gripped the halfling's arm and prepared to toss up top again. "Okay! On three! THREE!" He grunted as he hefted the halfling into the air. Athletics Roll= 1+8= 9; Failure? (yup.) The second trip upward was not as crisp as the first attempt. "By gods, grab something Custer!" Kellar gripped the side of the lift as he watched as Custer ascended.
The golden scales instinctively covered Kellar. Orbaugh, be ready.
Actions:
What's a Strength Check? LOL
Kellar tried to heft Custer again.
Kellar used Blade Ward.

Re: Chapter Four
He couldn't hear himself suck in air over the clamoring of the elevator in the shaft, but he felt it start to refill his chest as he dangled from Kellar's outstretched arm. He would have thanked his friend for saving his life if he could talk.
Kellar yelled down at him, "I got you! I got you. Hang on, you need to get back up there!"
Cuss could only nod. His eyes were blurry from tears. It must be the strain because he was not crying.
The Dragoon counted, "Okay! On three! THREE!"
